Media Homework - Social Media and Internet Use

Task 2

Personally, I use the Internet and social media alot. In fact, I was on Instagram right before I started this task. For social media, I mostly use Pinterest, Instagram and Tumblr, Facebook and We Heart It. This is because on sites like Pinterest, Instagram or We Heart It I have more of a following and I have to stay up to date with posting. The amount of time I spend online probably isn't a good thing though because I miss out on socialising with my family, friends etc. Most of the time I miss out on movie nights, eating with my family or simply spending time with them. This is because I'm probably in my room busy  doing nothing but staying on my phone. even when I am downstairs with my family ill still not be paying attention because I'm on my phone. I think this is a bad habit because it impacts my relationship with other people and stops me from socialising as much. However, social media and the Internet does have positive affects on people. In my opinion, I find Pinterest and We Heart It to be the most 'useful' time spent on the Internet because you aren't spending hours scrolling but i think they are very positive sites. They inspire people and increase creativity and optimism, especially with me. Furthermore, I have met people that I'd consider friends over the Internet which share the same common interests or personality traits as me. 

Task 3

On Facebook people tend to share funny videos, pictures or memes more than music videos, songs and news articles. But they also share things such as commercial products, adverts and trailers for films. 

I think people most often share memes and funny videos because it makes them laugh and they like to tag their friends to make them laugh and comment or like the post. Also, society shares commercial products or trailers because they find them interesting and helps to promote. This links to the fact that we don't share news articles because people find it boring even if it is important subject matter.  

Task 4

To promote my record label on social media I would -

- Do a giveaway containing merchandise of a band or artist of your choice within the record label. To enter the giveaway you would need to follow the record label on the social media platform and like the post. You would also get extra entry's in the raffle depending on whether you follow the artists or bands signed to that record label. This is a good way to promote the label because it gains followers on social media, hypes up the label and increases the number of likes. It also promotes the company's merchandise to improve sales on the products. 

- Make a quiz like the buzzfeed quizzes but relate it to your record label in some way. Then post it on social media and that will gain likes and followers because its interesting and fun.

- Pay money to celebrities or other famous people with a large following and that way you can sell your product and gain followers. You can also pay to advertise your product on social media to gain attention to your record label.

- Make your posts better by using good quality and cool photos or funny and interesting posts. This will make your account look aesthetic and will draw people in.

- Post on social media often. Who's going to follow anyone who barely posts? Plus if they're good posts like on my previous following then you are sure to gain more followers.  

Task 5

I think the fact that we can reach music on so many platforms and there are so many ways to explore new music gives people a chance to connect better. Most people find their favourite artists through youtube or spotify. This means we can connect to other people with the same likes and dislikes as us because we've had opportunities to figure it out. However, it also brings people together not just on the Internet. You can follow your friends on apps like spotify and make playlists and share music with each other. This way you can discuss perhaps a new song or an artist you've never heard of before and you can learn more about your friends this way.
