Ideology In Media Homework

Task 1

Ideology - A system of ideas and ideals, especially one which forms the basis of economic or political theory and policy.
Ideology -  An ideology is a set of opinions or beliefs of a group or an individual. Very often ideology refers to a set of political beliefs or a set of ideas that characterise a particular culture.
Ideology - This is a comprehensive set of normative beliefs, conscious and unconscious ideas, that an individual, group or society has.

Task 2

A dominant ideology denotes the attitudes, beliefs, values, and morals shared by the majority of the people in a given society.

Dominant ideologies are ideologies or beliefs that we live by in our day-to-day lives and often do not question – they have become 'natural, common sense' things to do. This effectively dissuades people from rebelling against these beliefs, and keeps a sense of stability in society.

EG.
Certain crimes should be punishable by imprisonment
Freedom of speech is an important right
A full working week lasts for five days
Everyone over the age of 18 should have the opportunity to vote

Task 3

In headlines such as on the right, who create dominant ideologies in society might make people believe a certain group of people or stereotype is wrong. For example, saying that people on benefits feed off of the society and are lazy makes people believe that everyone on benefits is lazy. But this might not be true but gives everyone a bad view on these people. Doing this in newspapers could also lead to more serious issues like how the stereotypical terrorist is always seen as Muslim. this is because the newspapers are always stating that terrorists are Muslim.

Task 4

Capitalism - An economic system characterised by private or corporate ownership of capital goods, by investments that are determined by private decision, and by prices, production, and the distribution of goods that are determined mainly by competition in a free market.

Socialism - A political and economic theory of social organisation which advocates that the means of production, distribution, and exchange should be owned or regulated by the community as a whole.

Communism - A theory or system of social organisation in which all property is owned by the community and each person contributes and receives according to their ability and needs.

Capitalist principles -
The economy’s purpose is to generate profit
Unrestrained competition
Freedom of access to markets, with the goal that everyone can be a Buyer and Seller
Freedom of negotiation and exchange of goods and services between Buyers and Sellers within the market.
